Positive Update: $95 Capital One Venture Business Card Takes Over Spark Miles

Capital One has made some changes and a rebranding effort with one of its business credit cards, which seems like a smart move for creating a more unified card lineup. I think it’s actually good news overall.

Capital One Venture Business Card Details

The Capital One Venture Business card is replacing the Capital One Spark Miles Card. Here are the key features:

  • There’s a limited-time welcome bonus of up to 150,000 miles—75,000 miles when you spend $7,500 in the first three months, and another 75,000 miles after spending a total of $30,000 in six months.
  • The card charges an annual fee of $95, but adding authorized users comes at no extra cost.
  • You can earn unlimited 2x miles with no category restrictions, along with 5x miles on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel.
  • The card also provides up to $100 in credits annually, which includes a $50 travel credit through Capital One Business Travel and up to $50 for qualifying purchases on advertising or software retailers.
  • Additionally, it offers up to $120 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credits every four years.

This card looks quite appealing, especially with that welcome bonus—it really incentivizes potential applicants.

If you’re curious about the eligibility for the welcome bonus, the terms say that “existing or former account holders may not qualify.” Capital One isn’t always clear about its rules. However, from my experience, if your application goes through without any issues, chances are good you’ll get the bonus.

This Business Card Rebrand is Good News Overall

When looking at the new Capital One Venture Business versus the old Capital One Spark Miles Business, it’s fair to say these updates are improvements. The annual fee remains the same, and there’s a current welcome bonus, plus additional credits that weren’t available before.

In the past, Capital One utilized the “Venture” brand for personal cards and “Spark” for business cards. This led to a bit of confusion, especially since the benefits aren’t all that different between the two. Many consumers might not have realized this distinction.

This mix-up is understandable, especially as other issuers like Amex and Chase are working towards clearer branding for their personal and business cards. Recently, Capital One has started adopting Venture branding for more business cards, a trend that kicked off with the Capital One Venture X Business.

Both the Venture Business and Venture X Business offer similar benefits. Which card is best really depends on what you, as a consumer, are looking for. Additionally, the Venture card also includes benefits like lounge access.

Conclusion

The Capital One Venture Business is essentially a rebranding of the Spark Miles card. While the main features are similar, aligning the branding between the Venture and Spark offerings seems logical. There are some nice enhancements, including new credits.

It’s an appealing card, but your choice might depend on whether you find more value in this one or the Capital One Venture X Business.
