Brian Hooker Prepares for Release from Prison

Brian Hooker, the husband of missing American woman Lynette Hooker, is currently in the Bahamas as he gets ready for his release after spending five days in police custody. He was detained in connection with his wife’s disappearance.

During an interview with NBC News, Brian expressed that he would never harm Lynette, who went missing on April 4. He refrained from providing specifics about that day, citing concerns that it might hinder ongoing search efforts.

Hooker emotionally shared his feelings about being separated from his spouse of approximately 25 years, stating, “Lynette is my life. We belong to each other.”

After being released from custody on Monday night, Brian intends to stay in the Bahamas, as confirmed by his attorney. She mentioned that his primary goal is to continue the search for Lynette.

Brian is expected to meet with Bahamian police to retrieve personal electronic devices that were seized earlier. He has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation, and authorities have the option to re-arrest him if necessary. It’s currently unclear whether he possesses a passport.

Hooker was held at Freeport’s Central Police Station while the Royal Bahamas Police Force, in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard, looked into his wife’s disappearance near Elbow Cay on Great Abaco Island.

On the night of April 4, Lynette was last seen after the couple left the Abaco Inn in a small dinghy. Brian explained that the boat was overturned by strong winds, leading to Lynette falling overboard. He claimed that he then paddled for several miles until the boat washed ashore, where authorities were alerted.

Initially, Brian assisted in the search for his wife before being taken into custody. According to Bahamian law, individuals can be detained for 48 hours without being officially charged, a time frame that was extended in his case.

Family members, including his stepdaughter, have made allegations of abusive behavior against Brian, who originally hails from Michigan but retired to the Bahamas with Lynette some years ago.

In response to the incident, Brian posted on social media expressing his heartbreak regarding the boating accident, describing the circumstances and his ongoing efforts to locate Lynette.
