Music Teacher Accused of Grooming a Student and Revealing a 'Love' Tattoo on His Chest

In a troubling case in the United States regarding teacher misconduct, a Florida music teacher has been charged with making a teenage student uncomfortable by kissing her between the breasts and showing her a tattoo that he claimed symbolized his love for her.

Rudolph Infante, 53, who works at Southridge High School in Miami, allegedly lifted his shirt to reveal a pair of hearts on his ribcage, telling the girl that they represented the two of them, as indicated in an arrest report.

A video from Infante’s court appearance in Dade County shows the judge setting bail and placing him under house arrest with an ankle monitor. He is also prohibited from going to any schools, not just the one involved in the case.

Infante started teaching the piano to students last August. The arrest warrant states that he began grooming the girl through inappropriate comments and physical touching, including “side hugs” that made her feel uneasy and grabbing her buttocks.

He allegedly told the student, “If only I were 30 years younger,” expressing admiration with statements like, “You are so beautiful…I can’t wait to be with you.”

Reports from local news outlets indicate:

Police shared that the girl told detectives Infante’s behavior crossed boundaries because it was “done out of love and affection,” explaining that she stopped asking him to stop as she felt he wouldn’t listen.

According to the arrest report, he pulled her onto his lap while she sat in a chair and kissed her on the breast area, leaving her frightened.

In October, she mentioned to detectives that he grabbed her phone and typed in “Call Rudy” along with a contact number.

Detectives noted that Infante stands 6 feet tall and weighs around 225 pounds, giving him a formidable presence.

Moreover, the arrest warrant suggests that Infante’s actions align with common grooming behaviors typically identified in cases of educator misconduct.

Allegations against him include holding her hand, providing one-on-one meetings in a secluded area, offering her a jacket when it was cold, and ordering food just for her through Uber Eats.

Despite this attention, she confided that she “never felt comfortable” with him.

He faces four counts of assault and one count related to his position of authority over the student.

Infante has pleaded not guilty and was released on $14,000 bail while being subject to house arrest.

It’s reported that Miami-Dade County Public Schools is moving to terminate his employment.

While cases involving female teachers and male students often draw significant media attention, studies indicate that almost 90% of such incidents involve male educators, coaches, or staff.

Research suggests that female perpetrators may use certain grooming techniques, whereas male offenders tend to employ different methods, reflecting a pattern found in various studies.

Male perpetrators often utilize grooming to convince their victims they are “in love,” while sexual attraction is typically more pronounced in female teacher cases.

This affectionate approach can eventually escalate to inappropriate physical contact.

The issue of educator sexual misconduct has escalated to what many experts describe as an “epidemic,” fueled by a culture that is hesitant to report misconduct and increased online interactions between students and teachers.

Sharol Shakeshaft, a prominent researcher in this area, stated that the frequency of misconduct in U.S. schools is “100 times worse” than the well-publicized sexual abuse scandals within the Catholic Church.
