Former NBC anchor Brian Williams, involved in controversy, to host podcast on Netflix

Brian Williams, the former anchor known for his tumultuous tenure at NBC Nightly News and MSNBC’s 11th Hour, has partnered with Netflix.

He is set to launch a video podcast titled “We’re Back! With Brian Williams,” according to Netflix. The podcast will feature conversations with a range of guests, including newsmakers, actors, musicians, and journalists, focusing on their careers, personal experiences, and the current state of the world.

The specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet.

In a statement, Williams mentioned, “Scientists predict that by 2030, every American will be using a podcast, so we thought it was the right moment to join in.” He expressed his desire for in-depth discussions, noting that in news, significant interviews can sometimes be condensed to just four minutes. “I aim to have engaging conversations with creative, smart, and results-driven people—similar to the shows we all enjoyed growing up. Netflix feels like an ideal fit for this,” he added.

This new venture marks Williams’ return to the public eye following his departure from NBC News in 2015, which was triggered by controversies surrounding exaggerations in his reporting on events like the Iraq War and Hurricane Katrina.

With nearly three decades at NBC, including a significant 11 years on “NBC Nightly News,” Williams transitioned to work with MSNBC after his exit. He led “The 11th Hour” from 2016 until 2021, when his contract ended.

In 2024, he briefly returned to television to anchor a live election special for Amazon Prime Video.

The announcement from Netflix hints at greater job security for Williams, who left MSNBC in 2021. The podcast will be overseen by Jonathan Wald, who previously collaborated with Williams and also produced the Amazon special.
