Armed individual confronted by security after entering Aetna's Connecticut office

Intruder Arrested at Aetna Headquarters

A man with an “AR-style pistol” attempted to break into the Aetna health insurance headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut. Fortunately, security acted swiftly to prevent any serious incident, according to officials.

An employee spotted the suspicious individual entering the building around 10 a.m. Thursday and quickly alerted security. This information was shared in an internal email from Christopher Knight, security vice president at CVS Health, which owns Aetna.

Police have identified the man as 51-year-old Denray Wadlington, who entered the office carrying a backpack with the firearm inside, as stated by the Hartford Police Department.

Security personnel detained him just three minutes after he entered, managing to do so without creating a scene.

Local police arrived shortly thereafter and took Wadlington into custody.

He now faces several charges, including third-degree criminal trespass, illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of an assault weapon, and having a high-capacity magazine.

Lt. Aaron Boisvert remarked that Wadlington’s intentions were still unclear.

Wadlington has a criminal history, with previous convictions for assault, menacing, and drug possession, according to court and public records.

In a message to employees, Knight noted, “We immediately initiated security protocols and coordinated with local law enforcement to address the situation promptly and safely.”

Multiple security measures remain in place, as cops will continue their presence throughout the day while they investigate similar calls.

The unsettling event comes on the heels of a more serious situation involving UnitedHealthcare, where its CEO was shot and killed in New York City, allegedly by Luigi Mangione in connection with an insurance policy dispute. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

As for Aetna, its parent company, CVS Health, recently announced plans to lay off over 300 remote employees linked to the corporate headquarters.

The company issued a brief statement about the incident: “An individual attempted to enter our office earlier today and was immediately apprehended by our security team and local police.”
