Texans’ Will Anderson Jr reportedly signs groundbreaking contract

Will Anderson Jr appreciates his head coach for strong defensive play

Will Anderson Jr. Secures Major Contract Extension with Texans

Will Anderson Jr., the standout defensive end for the Houston Texans, has reportedly secured a significant contract extension. On Friday, news broke that Anderson has agreed to a three-year deal worth $150 million, which makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL’s history. Inside this impressive contract, there’s about $134 million guaranteed.

The Texans had already opted for Anderson’s fifth-year option back in April. So, if everything goes as planned, this extension will keep him tied to the team for a total of five years, amounting to roughly $177 million over that span.

Chosen third overall in the 2023 NFL Draft from Alabama, Anderson made an immediate impact. He was voted into the Pro Bowl, racking up seven sacks and 45 tackles within 15 games, also earning the title of NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2023. His performance only got better in the following season, achieving 11 sacks and 37 tackles in 14 games.

Last year, he played a crucial role in the Texans’ strong defense, which limited their opponents to an average of 17.3 points per game—ranking second in the league—and allowed only 279 total yards per game, the best in the NFL.

With 12 sacks, 54 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles over 17 games, Anderson not only made it to the Pro Bowl again but also finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns.

Previously, the largest non-quarterback contract was held by Micah Parsons of the Green Bay Packers, who signed a four-year extension worth $188 million just last season.
