LaMelo Ball’s Injury Update Following Incident

LaMelo Ball is recovering after a recent incident on the court.

During a high-stakes game, Ball sparked some controversy when he tripped Miami Heat captain Bam Adebayo, resulting in a hard fall that kept him out for the remainder of the contest. This incident occurred in the second quarter of a game that ultimately ended in overtime, with the Hornets narrowly winning 127-126.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming play-in game against the Magic, Ball stated he wasn’t angry about the play where he reached for Adebayo’s leg in an attempt to break his fall. He also addressed speculation on social media about whether the trip was intentional.

“I’m a little worried about today’s game,” he mentioned after the Hornets’ shootaround.

Despite not being called for a foul during the play, Ball faced a fine totaling $60,000—$35,000 for the foul (later upgraded to Aggravated 2) and an additional $25,000 for inappropriate language during a live postgame interview.

He expressed concern for Adebayo, emphasizing the importance of player safety in the league. “Just take care of Bam. We don’t want anyone getting hurt,” Ball shared.

Adebayo, for his part, remarked that he hadn’t yet conversed with Ball about the incident. “That didn’t happen,” he told reporters, noting he was occupied with his own postgame routine at the time.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra didn’t hold back his criticism of Ball’s actions. “I don’t think it’s cute. I don’t think it’s funny. It’s a dangerous play,” he stated after the game, suggesting that such actions should not be permitted in basketball.

Ball acknowledged his attempts to reach out after the game but said Adebayo was preoccupied. “I was waiting for him by his locker,” he explained, revealing he had to give him space because of the chaotic atmosphere.

As for the Hornets, they are setting their sights on the Magic to determine the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, with their first-round matchup against the Pistons slated to begin this Sunday.
