Jon Rahm Responds to LIV Golf’s Uncertain Future
After the first round of the LIV Golf competition in Mexico City, Jon Rahm brushed aside inquiries regarding the league’s uncertain status.
“I think it’s not really worth spending time on that,” the Spanish golfer remarked, referencing the swirling rumors about LIV’s potential closure. “Until someone tells me it’s true, I see no reason to focus on it.” His priority was clear: prepare for the tournament.
Rahm explained that the situation developed so rapidly that there was little reason for him to stress over it. “Normally, we get a heads-up before rumors start circulating. So, I wasn’t too concerned because it all happened so fast,” he added.
His comments come amidst a tumultuous period for LIV Golf. Just days ago, reports emerged suggesting that the league, which made waves since its inception in 2022, might be close to shutting down.
In light of this, LIV executives were reportedly called to an emergency meeting in New York to discuss the tour’s Mexico City event.
CEO Scott O’Neill tried to downplay the idea that the league was nearing its end, although he later acknowledged that the future of the Saudi-backed organization beyond 2026 is uncertain. “We’re funded for this season, and then we need to work diligently to sustain the business,” O’Neill noted in a recent interview.
As for fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia, he offered little insight into the ongoing situation. “I haven’t heard anything beyond what Yasir [Al-Rumayyan] shared with us at the year’s start. He reassured us they’re committed to a long-term plan. There’s always chatter, but I can’t really comment on anything more than that,” Garcia stated.
By the time Friday’s second round rolled around, Rahm found himself in the lead at 10 under.
