Trump Announces He Will Share Government Documents on UFOs 'Soon'

Trump to Release Government UFO Records

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that his administration is taking steps to make public government documents related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and unexplained aerial phenomena.

Back in February, Trump indicated he would instruct Army Secretary Pete Hegseth and leading intelligence officials to declassify files about extraterrestrial life and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) that have been under wraps for quite some time. During a Turning Point USA event, he mentioned that the process of reviewing these documents is already in progress, hinting that the first set of files could be released shortly.

“As you may recall, I recently directed the Army Secretary to begin releasing files on UFOs and unexplained phenomena. I thought this would be a great crowd to share that with, since you’re all quite knowledgeable about it. I’m pleased to say that this process is going smoothly, and we’ve uncovered a number of intriguing documents. The initial releases will happen soon,” Trump stated.

In January 2026, Republican Rep. Eric Burlison from Missouri mentioned that Congress members have been advised to intensify oversight of unexplained aerial phenomena and are advocating for enhanced UFO transparency and stronger protections for whistleblowers. Although Burlison expressed a keen interest in the ongoing investigations, he indicated that he would hold off on forming conclusions until he reviews tangible evidence, possibly including physical or biological materials.

Former defense and intelligence officials raised concerns in November 2023 about potential delays in releasing UFO-related documents, warning it might result in uncontrolled disclosures as Congress pushes forward UAP transparency initiatives in the annual national defense authorization discussions. Lawmakers from both political parties are simultaneously calling for improved public access to long-secret government documents.

In December 2020, Navy personnel recorded footage of a triangular object surfacing from the ocean near a U.S. warship, after which Pentagon officials stated they had no explanation for the sighting. An ensuing defense investigation into over 140 incidents involving unidentified aerial phenomena indicated that many cases remain unresolved and demand further examination.
