A significant explosion shook Simi Valley on Friday, sending huge clouds of smoke into the sky, causing alarm among residents. However, Johnny Knoxville clarified that it was just part of a stunt for his upcoming film, “Jackass: The Best and Last.”
Initially, there were widespread concerns after the explosion could be seen near the Simi Dog Park, leading some people to speculate about a possible plane crash.
Videos shared on Instagram showed the alarming sight of smoke rising over a hill. Knoxville later took to social media to ease public worries.
“People thought a plane had crashed in Simi Valley yesterday,” he stated. “Little did they know it was due to a huge explosion our team had for the final day of filming ‘Jackass.’
He added, “We were standing near the blast and couldn’t believe what we were witnessing.”
Officials noted that such filming activities are actually quite common in that area.
A representative from the Ventura County Fire Department mentioned that productions held at Big Sky Movie Ranch tend to involve large-scale stunts.
Details about the intensity of the explosion or whether it triggered emergency calls from residents remain unclear.
Knoxville reflected on the many memorable moments throughout the production.
The new “Jackass” film, the fifth installment in the series, is set to be released in theaters on June 26. These films are known for showcasing outrageous and often reckless stunts, pranks, and comedic sketches by Knoxville and his team.
