Max Homa tosses his club at RBC Heritage after describing golfers as 'privileged' for it

Max Homa’s Frustration at RBC Heritage

This weekend, Max Homa, a six-time PGA Tour winner, found himself back in the spotlight due to an earlier commentary on golfers he deemed “spoiled.” His frustration boiled over during the RBC Heritage, held at Havertown Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. On the 15th hole, after failing to get back on the fairway, Homa threw his club several yards away in visible annoyance.

He ultimately finished the tournament tied for 69th place after making bogey on that hole. While Homa’s outburst wasn’t as extreme as some other players’, it reignited discussions on social media regarding his past criticisms about golfers damaging the course.

At a recent press conference, Homa addressed the code of conduct following a warning issued to Sergio Garcia for breaking a tee box. Although he didn’t directly name Garcia, he expressed disapproval of such outbursts, mentioning how damaging them reflects poorly on players.

“I really don’t like it when players break clubs or vandalize courses,” Homa commented. “We are privileged to play this game, and it’s hard to justify those kinds of moments.” He reflected on his own behavior, admitting how frustrating it is to fall into that mindset.

Soccer fans quickly took to social media, pointing out the contradiction in Homa’s stance given his own actions. Some comments on social media highlighted this perceived hypocrisy, suggesting he was guilty of saying, “do as I say, not as I do.”

In a twist, Garcia recently issued an apology for some harsh statements he made online, while, at the moment, Homa has not yet done the same. Though, I think it’s quite possible he might address the situation soon enough.
