Starbucks Faces Backlash Over New Secret Menu Inspired by The Devil Wears Prada 2

Starbucks is encountering some pushback from its fans after introducing a new “secret menu” drink collection that draws inspiration from The Devil Wears Prada 2. Critics have particularly pointed out the changes made to the chai latte.

On Monday, the coffee giant revealed four new beverages linked to the 2006 movie sequel, showcasing character-themed variations. The offerings include Miranda’s Signature Order—a no-foam, extra-hot caffe latte with non-fat milk and an extra shot—as well as Andy’s Cappuccino featuring oat milk, caramel, and cinnamon.

There are also Nigel’s Go-To Doppio, which is an espresso con panna with mocha, and Emily’s Fave Iced Chai, an iced chai latte made with almond milk and unsweetened caramel. These options will be accessible via the Starbucks app leading up to the film’s release on May 1st.

“This beverage will be available for a limited time at participating Starbucks locations worldwide,” the company stated.

However, it’s the iced chai that particularly riled some fans on Instagram. The brand’s comment section quickly filled with requests for the return of the original chai latte. One user declared, “There’s no way the current chai will be anyone’s favorite.” Others echoed similar sentiments, with comments like, “Emily isn’t drinking that pathetic excuse of drinking chai,” and another urging, “Please bring back the original chai.”

One chai lover lamented that Starbucks “ruined” a cherished birthday tradition by altering the recipe. She expressed her disappointment, saying, “It’s my 50th birthday next week, and I wanted to enjoy my usual chai that I’ve had for almost 30 years, but Starbucks had to change it and ruin it.” Another even mentioned how she had shared the drink with many friends over the years, who now dislike chai.

In March, Starbucks made adjustments to its chai recipe, introducing an updated chai latte that allows customers to have more control over sweetness and flavor. The company explained, “While the standard recipe includes sweet syrup, customers can manage sweetness by altering the number of pumps.” Alternatively, they can swap out classic syrup for flavored options, like vanilla, which enhances the spicy notes.

Starbucks has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding this backlash.
