UCLA Tops Rankings of America’s Best College Campuses
A recently released ranking has placed the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) at the forefront of college campuses in the U.S., showcasing California’s ongoing strength in higher education and campus life.
UCLA secured the number one position overall after surpassing numerous institutions nationwide. This achievement is attributed to its academic excellence, top-notch facilities, and positive student experiences, according to data gathered by Niche, an online resource for university insights.
UCLA’s campus, spanning 419 acres in the affluent Westwood area of Los Angeles, is well-known for its beautiful scenery and distinctive architecture, often described as a “university in a garden.” With more than 33,000 undergraduates and over 125 available majors, it blends high academic standards with a lively campus vibe, as noted by student feedback.
Students’ opinions were key to the rankings and revealed a predominantly favorable outlook. One freshman remarked, “I enjoy being at UCLA. The food is okay, and there are plenty of options. I feel academically challenged.”
Moreover, UCLA earned the top spot for campus dining choices.
New students mentioned that while registering for classes can be quite stressful, they are generally pleased with their decision to enroll.
Virginia’s Liberty University received the second-place ranking, featuring a sprawling 7,000-acre campus nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, known for its extensive lawns and rapidly expanding academic facilities.
Virginia Tech claimed the fourth position with its impressive 2,600-acre campus and signature Hokeystone architecture, while Washington University in St. Louis rounded off the top five. This institution is recognized for its Gothic architecture and proximity to Forest Park, combining visual appeal with academic prestige.
The rankings were shaped by a mix of federal data and student evaluations to reflect the true essence of campus life. According to Niche, student surveys on campus quality contribute significantly to the overall score, augmented by categories like food, housing, neighborhood characteristics, and safety.
The methodology utilized U.S. Department of Education data alongside students’ first-hand experiences, focusing on factors like the quality of housing, dining options, campus facilities, and access to local attractions. The top five institutions all achieved A+ ratings for overall campus quality.
As college life extends well beyond the classroom, California’s campuses seem to lead the charge, with five universities making it into the top 30, including Master’s University, University of Southern California, and University of San Diego.
