Karen DeBoer Signs Contract Extension
Karen DeBoer has secured a new deal.
The head coach of the Crimson Tide has inked a seven-year contract extension with the University of Alabama, bringing his yearly salary to $12.5 million.
This extension adds two more years and an additional $2 million each year to the agreement he initially made with the university a bit over two years ago.
Currently, DeBoer ranks among the top five highest-paid coaches in college football in the country. His new contract will keep him with Alabama through the 2032 season.
“My family and I would like to express our gratitude to the Board of Governors, President Trant, President Moeller, Athletic Director Greg Byrne, the athletics administration, and the football staff for their ongoing support of our community and the University of Alabama football,” DeBoer shared in a statement.
“I’m thrilled to extend my time in Tuscaloosa. This university holds a special place in our hearts, and I am eager to help ensure that Alabama football remains a leader in college football. The program has a rich history and unmatched tradition, and I dreamed of being part of it two years ago. I cannot wait to keep coaching our players and to push for more championships at Alabama.”
During his two seasons in Tuscaloosa, DeBoer has managed to achieve a 20-8 record.
Last season, the Crimson Tide triumphed over the Oklahoma Sooners, finishing with an 11-4 record in the College Football Playoff. However, they were defeated by the eventual champions, the Indiana Hoosiers, in the semifinals.
Before joining Alabama, DeBoer led Washington to a national championship game in 2024. There were rumors of him being considered for the head coach role at Michigan following Sherone Moore’s scandalous exit late last year.
Despite the interest from other programs, DeBoer has denied any talks regarding other positions.
“I haven’t discussed my other opportunities with anyone and I don’t intend to,” he said in a December statement. “I’m completely committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”
