McDonald’s Enhances Menu with Protein Labels

McDonald’s is jumping on the protein bandwagon, recently introducing new labels to over a dozen items on its menu. This move comes as the fast-food chain aims to make it more convenient for customers to find dishes that align with their protein preferences.

In a news release, the company explained that these “protein callouts” serve as visual badges, allowing customers to easily spot high-protein options throughout the day.

While customers will see these badges on the McDonald’s app and kiosks, it appears that the physical menus will remain unchanged. The initiative, as stated by the company, is meant to help patrons discover menu items that fit their protein needs.

Beginning April 21, these protein badges will mark 17 menu items suitable for various meals, from breakfast staples to lunch and dinner favorites. Options include the classic Egg McMuffin, which contains 17 grams of protein, and the 10-piece Chicken McNuggets with 23 grams. The idea here is to simplify the ordering process for those who prioritize protein intake.

Other highlighted options include McCrispie Strips, offering 30 grams of protein, Snack Wraps with 17 grams, the McDouble at 22 grams, and the Filet-O-Fish at 16 grams.

Some users on social media expressed skepticism about the protein counts of certain items. One commenter wondered, “Why doesn’t the cheeseburger have double the protein? Is it just the cheese issue?” Another user felt left out, noting their beloved sausage biscuits weren’t listed, despite having protein.

This update comes as the demand for protein-rich food continues to rise across the fast-food landscape. Businesses are increasingly responding to consumer interest in high-protein, low-carbohydrate options, with other chains like Shake Shack also adapting their menus to meet these preferences.

Overall, the new labels are part of efforts from McDonald’s to cater to changing dietary demands.
