Mike Vrabel Will Skip Day 3 Of Patriots’ Draft After Agreeing To Counseling Due To Alleged Inappropriate Photos

Mike Vrabel’s Counseling Decision and Draft Absence

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has announced he will not be at the team’s activities on the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft, as reported by ESPN’s Mike Reese on Thursday.

“As I mentioned earlier, I owe it to my family, this organization, and the team to always bring the best version of myself. This weekend, I’ve chosen to start counseling,” Vrabel stated on Wednesday evening. He added, “It’s something I’ve contemplated heavily, and if I were advising a player, I’d recommend the same.”

Vrabel, who aims to lead by example, expressed that this step is crucial for him to be the best husband, father, and coach he can be. “It’s tough to say this out loud, but I genuinely believe it’s a way for me to improve. I truly appreciate all the support and promise to come back with renewed dedication,” he continued.

He and his wife, Jen, who have two sons, will be traveling out of Massachusetts this weekend.

The coach had his first discussion with reporters since news arose about a photo showing him with former Athletic reporter Deanna Russini. In those photos, they appeared to be holding hands and hugging at an Arizona hotel. Vrabel characterized the incident as a “personal and private matter,” mentioning that he has had difficult talks with those close to him, including family, staff, and players.

According to Vrabel, the meeting was “positive and productive.” He added, “To find success both on and off the field, making the right decisions is essential, and that starts with me.”

While he will keep in touch with his players until the NFL draft concludes on Saturday, reports indicate that head coach Elliott Wolfe and player personnel vice president Ryan Cowden are confident in the team’s draft leadership.

The Patriots hold a total of 11 picks in the NFL Draft, including a selection at No. 31 in the first round. They have eight picks remaining on the final day, with two in the fourth round, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and one in the seventh.
