Minnesota Lawmakers Demand Answers from Rep. Ilhan Omar

Republican lawmakers in Minnesota are seeking clarity from Representative Ilhan Omar after her absence at a crucial state hearing related to a pandemic-era fraud investigation. This hearing is looking into potential connections to a significant fraud scandal.

State Representative Kristin Robbins, who heads the House Anti-Corruption and State Government Oversight Committee, sent a formal request on April 22 criticizing Omar for not attending the hearing and asking for a collection of documents linked to the Nourishing Our Future investigation, which has drawn national attention lately.

“The people of Minnesota and the members of the committee are disappointed,” Robbins expressed in a letter acquired by Fox News Digital, pointing out that Omar didn’t show up for a hearing centered on the MEALS Act— a federal relief package from 2020 that she sponsored.

Even with her absence, the committee has underscored their expectations for answers. Robbins emphasized that they are now formally asking for records from Omar’s office in addition to the queries mentioned in her letter.

Republicans Expand Investigation Amid Fraud Allegations

Robbins is looking to acquire communications showing Omar’s efforts to enhance access to federal child nutrition programs. This includes texts, emails, and meeting records involving the Minnesota Department of Education and her constituents.

Her request extends to Omar’s public endorsement of a Minneapolis restaurant tied to the program. Robbins referenced a Somali-language television segment where Omar praised Safari Restaurants as a meal distribution site, and she’s called for that video along with any related communications.

This promotional video was played during a committee meeting where lawmakers assessed Omar’s ties to an individual within the Minneapolis Somali community linked to the ongoing fraud case, which has been extensively reported.

Robbins Calls for Transparency

Further, Robbins is requesting a list of individuals involved in the Feeding Our Future case, including nonprofit founder Amy Bock and various alleged co-conspirators, as well as records of their interactions with Omar.

“She didn’t even respond to us,” Robbins lamented, remarking on Omar’s lack of engagement with committee invitations. “And her actions contributed to creating an environment conducive to this fraud.” When probed whether Omar had replied to any request, Robbins replied, “No, I’ve sent multiple emails and letters, but received nothing.”

The letter also scrutinizes political donations Omar received from individuals who were later indicted and requests any interaction with those donors.

Running for governor, Robbins has set a deadline for Omar to respond and submit the requested materials by May 5.

Ongoing Controversies Surrounding Omar

This inquiry marks a significant move in the GOP-led investigation into the “Feeding Our Future” scandal, with federal prosecutors alleging the theft of hundreds of millions in taxpayer-funded child nutrition benefits during the pandemic, a fraud estimated to reach tens of billions.

In addition to this fraud controversy, Omar is facing several other challenges, including a potential ethics investigation into her financial disclosures and allegations of immigration fraud, particularly raised by Vice President J.D. Vance.

Fox News Digital has attempted to contact Omar’s office for a response.
