Trump Issues Directive Regarding Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump announced a new order for the U.S. Navy to take decisive action against any vessels laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. He mentioned that the clearance of existing explosives in the region has been “tripled.”
This announcement came Thursday morning. Trump reiterated his previous claims about the diminished state of Iran’s navy, pointing out its decline has been largely due to U.S. military actions.
“I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be (Their naval ships are ALL, 159 of them, at the bottom of the sea!), that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” he stated on Truth Social. “There is to be no hesitation.”
“Additionally, our mine ‘sweepers’ are clearing the Strait right now. I am hereby ordering that activity to continue, but at a tripled-up level!” he added.
In his remarks, Trump also raised questions about Iran’s leadership, especially after recent events that claimed the lives of several top officials, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to U.S. and Israeli strikes.
“Iran is having a very hard time figuring out who their leader is! They just don’t know!” he remarked in another post. “The infighting is between the ‘Hardliners,’ who have been losing BADLY on the battlefield, and the ‘Moderates,’ who are not very moderate at all (but gaining respect!), is CRAZY!”
“We have total control over the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump declared. “No ship can enter or leave without the approval of the United States Navy. It is ‘Sealed up Tight,’ until such time as Iran is able to make a DEAL!!!”
These comments followed the extension of a ceasefire that his administration negotiated with Iran, as both nations prepare to continue their discussions beyond the initially set two-week period.
Despite this ceasefire, military actions persisted. The previous day, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guards reportedly attacked three cargo ships in the Strait, capturing two of them. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility, specifically mentioning attacks on the MSC Francesca, the Epaminondas, and the Euphoria.
On the military front, the Department of War shared video footage showing U.S. forces on the deck of a recently seized oil tanker named Majestic X, which was captured in the Indian Ocean earlier this week.
“As we have made clear, we will pursue global maritime enforcement efforts to disrupt illicit networks and interdict sanctioned vessels providing material support to Iran–anywhere they operate,” stated the Pentagon.
