Fans Upset Over Broadcast Issues During Mets Game

There was some frustration among fans watching the Mets game on Thursday night due to a broadcast issue in New York.

During the final game of a three-game series against the Twins, viewers noticed that the familiar voices of broadcasters Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling were missing. Instead, the game was called by a Spanish-language broadcaster.

This seems to stem from a technical problem with Verizon Fios that impacted customers across the tri-state area.

A fan expressed their confusion on social media, noting that the Mets won the previous night when the broadcast was in Spanish. They jokingly suggested that perhaps this was just a superstition. “I mean, they won last night when it aired in Spanish, so I guess it’s just superstition. Fans are asking if it’s only Fios users experiencing this issue,” they wrote.

As for Verizon, a spokesperson didn’t provide immediate comments to inquiries. However, the company’s support account indicated that the issue was linked to SNY’s broadcasting.

In response to the feedback from customers, Verizon’s support team mentioned that they had received multiple reports about the SNY channel broadcasting in Spanish. They further noted that this problem was evident among other Xfinity users as well.

Interestingly, this marked the second consecutive night that SNY dealt with a broadcasting glitch. But, despite the hiccup, some Mets fans viewed it as a silver lining, especially since the team had recently broken a 12-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, media personality Keith Olbermann also pointed out the language switch on social media. He shared his observations about the Mets struggling during the game, which included losing a lead and an injury to player Francisco Lindor.

In what might have been a twist of fate, the Mets secured a win against the Twins with a close score of 3-2 thanks to an important homer by Brett Batty.

As for Thursday’s game, the Mets jumped ahead with a strong start, leading 7-2 after five innings. However, tension rose when they allowed a grand slam in the eighth, leveling the score at 7-7.
