Nature festival in England emphasizes it is not intended for nudists

What do you picture when you hear “nature festival”? For me, it’s trees—something solid and good. But it turns out that many in the UK think of “nudists” at these events. A Facebook alert was even necessary to clarify that wearing clothes is not just welcome; it’s required.

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of, well, more skin, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

The Cumbria Nature Festival is scheduled from May 8th to May 10th, featuring conservation groups, various booths, activities, food, and live music. However, being “nude” is definitely not part of what that festival offers.

According to their post, “Cumbria Nature Festival is primarily aimed at naturalists…not naturists. We aim to be as inclusive as possible and, of course, don’t judge anyone, but this event is for wildlife lovers. Please dress appropriately.”

This is your gentle nudge to remember, if an event’s name incorporates the word “nature,” clothing is likely a must. It’s a tad obvious, right?

Sam Griffin, a member of the organizing committee, mentioned that they didn’t need to issue refunds, which is encouraging. He added that the misunderstanding often stems from how people interpret “naturalist,” which he thinks is a common error.

You might call me old-fashioned, or maybe even a bit picky, but when I hear about any event—whether it’s a nature festival or a casual get-together—I feel it’s just common sense to show up dressed. Now, you could argue about the definition of appropriate attire, but it’s safe to say clothes are typically involved.

So, next time you come across a nature festival advertisement, spare both yourself and the organizers the trouble of clarifying “no nudists allowed” on social media. Just assume that clothing is a requirement.
