Costco bagel change ignites intense discussion on convenience and expense

Costco bakery offers butter croissants and other great bargains for shoppers

Costco, famous for its gigantic offerings, is now making waves with a new approach in its bakery section that some shoppers are declaring as an improvement. The retailer has begun selling its popular Kirkland Signature Bagels in packs of eight at certain locations, a shift from the previous requirement to purchase two packs simultaneously.

This update has garnered significant attention, especially in a recent post by the Instagram account @costcobuys, which highlighted the change. Many customers are expressing relief, noting that larger quantities often lead to wasted food.

“Big news for bagel enthusiasts: Costco Bakery is now offering Kirkland Signature Bagels in convenient 8-packs,” the Instagram post stated, quickly accumulating over a million views in just one day. The reported price for these packs is $4.99, according to Majid Kasis, who runs the account.

In a video, Kasis noted, “No more bagels spoiling before you finish them,” emphasizing that many people seem happy with the smaller quantity option. While some have pointed out that the bagels may be smaller now, the overall feedback has been quite positive. Shoppers appreciate avoiding the need to buy two packs or freeze extra bagels.

“I don’t buy them for home because I don’t need 12 bagels, so I love the single pack option!” commented one shopper, while others agreed that a dozen bagels was simply “too many.” This adjustment is particularly helpful for smaller households, as it allows them to enjoy bagels without worrying about them going stale or needing extra freezer space.

Some responses to the change were simply expressions of excitement, with shoppers exclaiming, “Finally!” However, skepticism exists. Some commentators questioned if the move was really about convenience, noting that the pricing structure has shifted. “So you used to get 12 for $5.99. Now it’s 8 for $4.99, which feels like a price increase without really raising the price,” one user observed.

Others have echoed similar thoughts about the pricing per bagel. “The price per piece is higher now,” commented another. Although one user pointed out that the difference in unit price might still be relatively minor—around $0.66 per bagel now compared to $0.62 previously—there are concerns that this step strays from Costco’s bulk-buying ethos, which many shoppers cherish.

Nevertheless, a number of customers are still purchasing multiple packs, especially since more varieties have recently been made available. One individual recalled how the old two-pack system allowed them to mix different flavors.

Other discussions on social media also touched on broader issues with Costco’s baked goods, including ingredient transparency. One user remarked on the quality of the blueberry bagels, questioning if the product contains real blueberries or just flavored ingredients.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Costco for further comment on the matter.
