The U.S. Embassy in London issued a warning on Friday, urging Americans to “exercise increased vigilance” while visiting Jewish and American areas in both Britain and Europe, especially in light of recent threats.
The embassy acknowledged the ongoing concerns over attacks directed at Jewish and American institutions in the UK and wider Europe. The advisory encouraged Americans, particularly those at facilities serving Jewish or American interests, to be cautious and alert.
Furthermore, the embassy suggested that travelers should always be careful when visiting tourist sites, places of worship, or interacting with foreign residents. They should also review their personal safety plans and stay informed through local media.
For those concerned about their safety, the embassy advised registering with the State Department’s Safe Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive up-to-date travel and security information.
This warning comes on the heels of several recent anti-Semitic incidents across Europe, including the March 23 destruction of ambulances linked to a Jewish charity in London, an April 18 attack on the Kenton United Synagogue, and a bombing at a Jewish school in Amsterdam that authorities deemed a “targeted attack on the Jewish community.” Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these attacks, but there was some damage.
There are ongoing investigations by British authorities into whether Iranian-backed militants were responsible for some of these acts in London.
In a recent statement, Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the need for new legislation to address malicious state actions and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling these issues as soon as possible.
