Jazz Chisholm Jr. Struggles with ABS Challenge
Jazz Chisholm Jr., the second baseman for the New York Yankees, faced a tough moment during the ABS Challenge system on Friday. While he requested six attempts to get it right, only one ended in success.
During a game, he was caught in a full count and ended up hitting his helmet while trying to reach first base. Interestingly enough, the ABS system showed that the entire ball was within the strike zone—which, well, is just something you have to chuckle about, right? “You have to laugh at that point,” Chisholm remarked, probably trying to find some humor amidst the chaos.
Fortunately for him, the Yankees were ahead with a score of 12-4 against the Houston Astros while this was happening, so the manager, Aaron Boone, likely didn’t get too much heat from his players. “We were winning. This is a kid’s game. Sometimes you just have to take it lightly and walk away,” Chisholm added, highlighting a rather jovial outlook on the situation.
He even joked about a $1,000 fine for himself, saying he had to do something valuable for the team in return. Chisholm is among only two players in the league who have attempted at least six challenges but only succeeded once, having a 17% success rate which is the lowest among players with this many attempts.
Despite the team’s struggles, particularly in pitching—making things hard for batters—Chisholm maintains a decent fielding record. His batting average is, unfortunately, one of the lower ones in the league, but he seems to hold up well defensively.
