Vikings and Eagles Strike a Trade
The Vikings and Eagles made a notable trade on Friday night, though it seems the news leaked a couple of days earlier.
According to reports, Philadelphia is set to send two third-round picks—one from this year’s draft and one for 2027—to Minnesota in exchange for linebacker Jonathan Greenard.
Interestingly, reporter Olly Connolly hinted at this deal during an episode of the podcast “Read Optional” while chatting with co-host John Ledyard.
During their discussion about the Eagles’ draft approach, Ledyard pressed Connolly to share more details.
“Are you saying the Eagles have Jonathan Greenard? Is this breaking news?” Ledyard asked, to which Connolly speculated, “I think it’s a bit off, right?”
Ledyard replied, “I’m not so sure, Ollie.”
Connolly then reiterated his belief that the Eagles would likely look to trade for an edge rusher in the early days of the draft.
When the trade for Greenard was officially announced on Friday, it turned out that predictions were accurate—Eagles management reportedly gave the Pro Bowler a four-year contract extension worth $100 million.
The Eagles exchanged their 98th pick in this year’s draft and a future third-round pick with the Vikings.
Connolly later acknowledged on social media that he had jumped the gun with his early comments on the trade.
In terms of performance, Greenard has had a challenging season at Minnesota, tallying just three sacks across 12 games, a significant drop from the 12 sacks he achieved the previous year.
Meanwhile, the Vikings utilized the 98th pick to draft former Miami safety Jacoby Thomas.
