Incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Intense video footage from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shows attendees fleeing in panic on Saturday, not far from President Donald Trump, who was on stage at the time.
Inside the Washington Hilton Hotel, attendees heard shots fired nearby. Video captured by CBS News shows officers rushing onto the stage, shouting “Clear! Clear!” as chaos unfolded. The footage also revealed U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sitting at a table with his wife during this alarming moment.
As the U.S. Secret Service and police moved through the crowd ensuring safety, sounds of tables collapsing and glass breaking echoed in the room.
Everyone began assisting one another in getting to safety. During this frightening scene, U.S. Department of the Army Secretary Pete Hegseth was also spotted helping with the evacuation.
Reports indicated that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were swiftly taken out of the banquet hall while authorities assessed the situation.
Additional footage showed Trump and the First Lady seated on stage as the gunshots were heard, several loud bangs interrupting what was supposed to be a celebratory evening.
Another video captured the moment Trump and Melania were escorted away, shielded by law enforcement.
According to reports, Trump didn’t leave the facility entirely.
There were suggestions that someone might have tried to breach security with a weapon. Details indicated that a counterattack team had completed their duty, and the subject was no longer at the scene. Trump took refuge while others remained from a distance, waiting for updates. Initially, the Secret Service was checking for additional threats, but it was later stated that there were none, and the venue remained secured.
President Trump later confirmed that the shooter had been apprehended. He expressed a desire to continue with the evening’s festivities but understood the necessity of pausing for police response.
He praised the D.C. Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift and courageous actions. Even though he hoped the show would go on, he acknowledged the guidance of law enforcement was paramount in deciding how to proceed. Regardless, the evening had already changed dramatically. In Trump’s own words, “we have no choice but to start over.” He reflected on the situation through social media posts.
