Shooting near Indiana University injures 9, suspect remains unknown

Nine individuals were injured in a shooting near Indiana University early on Sunday. Police were called around 12:30 a.m. regarding gunfire at a celebration following the Little 500 college bike race. Upon arrival, they discovered several injured. According to reports, nine people were transported to nearby hospitals, with six taken by ambulance.

Details about the injuries of the victims weren’t disclosed by authorities. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the incident stemmed from an argument between two women at the event. One witness recalled, “I didn’t think much of it at first… then I saw one of the women pull out a gun and start shooting. I just started running.”

As of now, Bloomington police have made no arrests related to the incident.

This situation arises just a week after Shamar Elkins was identified in connection with a domestic violence incident in Louisiana, which tragically resulted in the deaths of eight children and left two women injured. The Shreveport Police Department’s Corporal Christopher Bordelon labeled the Florida shooting as a “heinous crime.”

It’s believed that Elkins first shot a woman on Harrison Street before moving on to another residence where more violence occurred. After fleeing the scene, he allegedly carjacked a man with a firearm. Subsequently, police initiated a pursuit that ended in Bossier Parish, leading to a confrontation where officers shot and killed Elkins. Thankfully, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.
