Rockies poke fun at Mets following doubleheader win in Queens

The Mets Face Mockery on Social Media

Recently, the Mets have become a frequent target on social media, especially as the challenging 2026 season unfolds.

The Rockies joined in on the fun, making some playful remarks after their solid performance in a doubleheader on Sunday. They cheekily referred to themselves as “King of Queens” and used their mascot, Dinger, to mock the big city.

Perhaps the most notable jab came from a post on the X account of the iconic Empire State Building. The Rockies tweeted, “Hey @EmpireStateBldg, just an idea…” accompanied by an image of New York landmarks illuminated in their signature purple.

Additionally, they shared a graphic showcasing their 3-0 win in Game 2 against the Mets, cleverly captioning it “Cleanse your state of mind,” a play on the famous phrase “New York State of Mind.”

The Rockies not only bested the Mets 3-1 in the first game but also secured a complete victory with a shutout in the second matchup. Earlier in the week, Colorado had defeated them 4-3 on Friday night, further emphasizing the Mets’ struggles. It seems like the brief joy of snapping a 12-game losing streak against the Twins quickly faded.

Earlier this week, the Minnesota team joined in on the teasing directed at the Mets, as did MLS club Charlotte FC after their victory over New York City FC, which also calls Citi Field home for some matches.

The Mets allowed just one run across 18 innings on Sunday, a stark reminder of the challenges facing manager Carlos Mendoza as questions regarding his future resurface.

As the Mets gear up for a day off, they’ll be looking to gain some momentum in their upcoming three-game series against the Nationals at Citi Field. Currently, they’re sitting 10.5 games behind in the National League East.
