A body, yet to be identified, was discovered on Sunday in a ditch while search efforts continued for the two missing University of South Florida students.
Earlier, on Friday, another body was found in the waters near the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa. That body belonged to 27-year-old Zamir Limon, a graduate student with U.S. Forces Japan, according to a statement released by officials.
As of Monday, authorities hadn’t identified the newly found body. The search was still ongoing for Limon’s girlfriend, Nahida Bristi, also 27.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is asking for any information or dashcam footage from the Howard Frankland Bridge between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on April 17.
The couple, both graduate students from Bangladesh, were last seen on April 16.
Limon’s roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugarbay, was apprehended on Friday and is facing various charges related to Limon’s death.
Before his arrest, Abugarbay reportedly barricaded himself inside his home, prompting a response from SWAT teams in his Tampa neighborhood.
These raids connected to the couple’s disappearance were executed after officials deemed them “at risk,” though they didn’t elaborate on that assessment.
Charges against Abugarbay include domestic violence, assault, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, and failing to register a death, among others.
Limon, who was pursuing a doctorate in geography, environmental science, and policy, was last seen at his student apartment at 9 a.m. on April 16. His girlfriend, Bristi, studying chemical engineering, was last spotted at the Natural and Environmental Sciences Building at USF.
The two were reported missing by a friend who was unable to get in touch with them. Investigators noted that both their phones had been turned off.
Attempts to reach the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Pinellas County Coroner’s Office for more information did not yield immediate responses by Monday night.
