Bill Maher and David Cross Clash on Transgender Issues

Bill Maher and comedian David Cross engaged in a heated discussion concerning transgender politics on Maher’s “Club Random” podcast. Their disagreement kicked off with remarks about transgender women competing in women’s sports, which Maher sarcastically wrapped up by saying, “Good luck, President Vance.”

The real debate intensified when Cross shared a personal story about her 9-year-old daughter having a transgender friend in third grade. This notion led to further conversation about trans rights and the realities of children navigating such identities, with Cross admitting she often lives in a “bubble” and wants to keep her daughter safe from harsh external judgments.

During the podcast, Maher recounted a comment made by Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton from Massachusetts, who expressed concern about transgender women in sports. Moulton had said, “I don’t want my 12-year-old daughter to be run over on the soccer field by someone who identifies as a woman but is really a boy.” Maher noted that many praised Moulton for his candor.

Maher remarked on instances from recent competitions, such as a transgender boxer who previously identified as male, winning against a female opponent, which he found troubling. “Seeing a man hit a woman—it’s unsettling,” he said. “Bad things can lurk inside that bubble.”

Countering Maher, Cross insisted that she had witnessed young girls physically assert themselves against boys, pushing back, as she described. “The issue,” Maher responded, “is that some on the left are fighting battles that don’t need to be fought.” He expressed frustration at what he saw as futile ideological confrontations.

The conversation also veered into personal anecdotes, with Cross confirming her daughter’s friendship with a transgender child. Maher, somewhat incredulously, questioned how children could fully understand such identities at that age, asking, “Do they even know they’re transgender in third grade?”

Cross defended her daughter’s friend, while Maher argued that children at that age aren’t genuinely equipped to make such significant decisions about their identities. He recalled a past conversation with a woman who had identified as a tomboy, wondering how things might differ if she were raised in today’s environment.

Cross seemed to challenge this notion, saying, “No one would do this to her.” Maher rebutted, stating that very young children can’t act independently regarding such matters, suggesting that external influences must be involved, which drew applause.

As they reached a tentative conclusion, Maher jested, “I tell my woke friends that we voted for the same person. It’s your fault she lost,” catching Cross off guard. “Wait, what?” she replied, visibly surprised.

After reiterating his point, Maher suggested that the majority of Americans might agree with him, asserting, “An 8-year-old can’t make these decisions,” and framed the discussion as emblematic of a broader ideological divide within the Democratic party.
