Substitute Teacher Faces Charges for Inappropriate Relationship
A substitute teacher in Texas has been accused of engaging in an improper relationship with a student, according to local authorities.
The Llano County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement that the Llano Independent School District reported an incident involving a substitute teacher and a student last Tuesday.
“The district takes all allegations of this nature very seriously and remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students,” the statement read.
The educator, identified as 27-year-old Angela Palmares, is now under scrutiny.
As part of their investigation, authorities conducted interviews and gathered evidence, ultimately leading to an arrest warrant for Palmares.
Law enforcement officials from the Llano County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Bell County Sheriff’s Office’s Violent Crimes Enforcement Division, apprehended her in Bell County on Wednesday without any issues.
Palmares has been charged with “inappropriate relationship between an educator and a student,” which is classified as a second-degree felony under Texas law. This charge stems from engaging in sexual contact or intercourse with a student at the school where the employee works.
Reports indicate that Palmares is currently being held on bail set at $150,000.
In a correspondence to parents, District Superintendent Mac Edwards indicated that the substitute teacher had been removed from the district’s roster of available educators as of April 21st.
Edwards also mentioned that concerns had been raised about other substitute teachers at Llano High School, specifically regarding their communications with students on social media after school hours. The district has assured that authorities were informed promptly.
Moreover, he noted that Palmares had not been an active employee since April 2, and the district is in communication with parents of affected students.
Edwards stressed the district’s dedication to maintaining a secure and supportive atmosphere for its students while also expressing the need for discretion regarding personnel issues.
The Llano County Sheriff’s Office has not provided any immediate comments following inquiries.
