A woman admitted to fatally stabbing her boyfriend after a disagreement over dinner plans, as revealed in court documents. Mikayla Cross, 27, stated that she attacked Lucas Roche on a Friday night because he opted to go home with takeout instead of dining at a bar together.
According to the criminal complaint, Cross told investigators that Roche was supposed to go out for dinner with her but then decided to bring home chicken drumsticks and seasonings to use in the air fryer. This led to an argument, which escalated to her stabbing him in the chest at their apartment in Lac La Belle, Wisconsin.
Cross mentioned that Roche “started pushing my buttons,” fueling the conflict. While administering CPR on Roche, she confessed to the stabbing and remarked, “If I had to lock her up, that would have been cool,” according to the complaint.
During her transport to the police station, she expressed frustration, saying, “I should have gone to a bar. The whole thing was frustrating.”
As she was escorted, Cross also stated, according to the complaint, that Roche’s parents “did not hate her before, but now they will hate her.” Roche was quickly taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead from a single stab wound.
Cross faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide. She and Roche had been in a relationship for about three years. When he called her to make dinner, she had expressed a desire to go to a bar instead, which is noted in the complaint.
Currently, Cross is being held on a bail of $2 million and could potentially receive a life sentence if convicted.
In her first court appearance, Roche’s father, Michael, spoke of his profound grief, saying he was a “devastated human being” over his son’s passing and urged the court not to let “that monster” walk free again.
Roche’s family shared their heartbreak, stating, “We are completely devastated by the tragic and senseless loss of our son, Lucas John Roche. He was the most loving, devoted, and kind-hearted person we have ever met.” They requested privacy during this difficult time.
A week prior to the stabbing, Roche reportedly told another woman and the landlord that Cross had bitten him, indicating that he felt threatened in the relationship. The landlord recounted that Roche seemed fearful of Cross and even asked for her full name in case anything happened.
