Uber Expands with In-App Hotel Booking Feature
Uber Technologies is introducing a new feature for hotel bookings directly within its app, thanks to a partnership with Expedia Group. This is part of Uber’s ongoing effort to position itself as a comprehensive platform for travel, transport, and food services.
The idea is to boost user engagement and tap into additional revenue opportunities. By adding travel services to its offerings, Uber aims to capture more of the consumer spending on mobility and lifestyle.
This feature was unveiled at Uber’s annual GO-GET event and will enable U.S. users to browse and reserve from over 700,000 hotels globally using Expedia’s travel booking resources. Additionally, vacation rental listings from Vrbo—also part of Expedia—will be integrated later this year.
Interestingly, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who previously led Expedia, had a hand in this partnership while transitioning to Uber in 2017. This connection to management emphasizes the collaboration’s strategic importance.
For those enrolled in Uber’s Uber One subscription service, there’s an attractive incentive: members will enjoy at least a 20% discount at around 10,000 hotels and accrue a 10% Uber credit with bookings.
Users can find the new “Hotels” option on the app’s main screen, where they can filter choices by price, star rating, and amenities. Booking can be completed using the existing Uber wallet, making it pretty seamless.
Moreover, Uber is expanding its travel-related features further. Starting in June, Uber One benefits will be applicable internationally, along with a new Travel Mode. This will provide localized ride directions and curated suggestions for dining and activities.
There are other innovative features on the horizon as well. For example, “Eat for the Way” will let users in selected U.S. cities pre-order snacks during premium rides. Meanwhile, “Shop for Me” will allow requests for items from businesses not available through Uber Eats.
Uber is also integrating AI-driven voice booking and improved search capabilities across its ride-hailing, food delivery, and retail services, really aiming to become a “super app” that centralizes various services into one platform.
Interestingly, the number of Uber One subscribers has reached 46 million as of the end of 2025, a significant 55% increase compared to the previous year.
