Brandon Nimmo Leaves Game with Hamstring Strain

Brandon Nimmo, a forward for the Rangers, departed from Wednesday’s game due to a strained right hamstring.

The incident occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning during a match against the Yankees in Arlington, where Nimmo, previously with the Mets, made a fielder’s choice that moved him from second to third base on a hit from Joc Pederson.

After the play, he received attention from Rangers trainer and manager Skip Shoemaker. They chatted briefly next to his bag before Nimmo exited the game.

It seemed Nimmo grabbed his right hamstring prior to leaving the field.

Replays showed him gingerly approaching third base.

In the postgame press conference, Nimmo was somewhat upbeat about his condition, mentioning that both he and Shoemaker had acted “cautiously” in deciding to pull him from the lineup. He expressed optimism, stating, “I fully expect to hear back on Friday.”

If Nimmo were to be sidelined for a significant time, it would be a major setback for the Rangers, who have benefited from his contributions in the early stages of the season.

Since being traded from the Mets to the Rangers last November, he’s been performing well, hitting .287/.358/.459 with four home runs and 12 RBIs over 30 games before his exit on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the Mets aren’t quite thrilled about the trade’s outcome. Marcus Semien, who came to New York, has been struggling, boasting only a .214 average with one home run in 103 at-bats prior to Wednesday’s game.

The Mets are currently at the bottom of the NL East, sharing a record of 10 wins and 19 losses with the Phillies. Despite the struggles, Nimmo remains hopeful about the season’s potential. He shared a perspective from his experience, saying, “I was part of the first team [0-5 in 2024], and starting May 15, they became the best team in baseball. Baseball has a long season, and surprises can happen.” He seems to think, at least, there’s still time for teams to improve, reflecting, “I’ve seen baseball go in a lot of different directions. So now I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, that’s baseball.’ It’s a crazy game.”
