Meghan McCain criticizes ‘The View’ replacement Alyssa Farah Griffin as a 'joke'

Meghan McCain has criticized her successor on ABC’s “The View,” referring to her as a “joke” and expressing doubts about Alyssa Farrah Griffin’s conservative credentials.

On her “Citizen McCain” podcast, she remarked, “I’m going to say something a little mean,” before adding that it’s laughable that Griffin took her place, suggesting Griffin does not represent conservative women at all.

McCain did not hold back her criticism of Griffin, who has ties to Trump, indicating that Griffin’s presence on the show was unwarranted.

At one point, she purposely stumbled over Griffin’s name, calling her “whatever,” and reiterated her long-standing grievances with “The View.”

Reflecting on her own experience, McCain shared her disappointment over how she contributed during a tough time in her life, mentioning her father’s battle with a brain tumor and her personal losses while working on the show.

The former co-host, daughter of the late Senator John McCain, also pointed out that “The View” has only won two Emmys, including one during her tenure, but her claim is actually inaccurate, as the show has secured over 20 Daytime Emmy Awards since its inception in 1997.

Despite her harsh words for Griffin, McCain spoke highly of her former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, calling her “amazing” and commending her strength and advocacy.

McCain joined “The View” in October 2017 and was a prominent conservative voice until her departure in August 2021, a role she filled during a time marked by significant political turmoil.

Her time on the panel often featured clashes, particularly with Joy Behar, culminating in a memorable exchange in January 2021, which McCain later cited as a turning point leading to her resignation.

Griffin’s background is notably different, having transitioned from roles in Republican politics to media. She served as press secretary to then-Vice President Mike Pence and later as White House communications director during Trump’s first term.

After leaving government, she moved into media, including work as a political commentator on CNN, before joining “The View” in 2022.

While identifying as a conservative, Griffin is known for her willingness to diverge from Trump and certain Republican Party norms. She has publicly criticized Trump during the 2020 election and after the Capitol riot, even revealing she voted for Kamala Harris in 2024.
