McLaren Golf Unveils First Club

McLaren Golf has officially launched its first golf clubs at a celebratory event coinciding with the ongoing Cadillac Championship and the Miami Grand Prix. The Formula 1 racing team recently made this announcement during a gathering on Wednesday night.

The luxury brand introduced two sets of clubs under the McLaren Golf name: the McLaren Golf Series 1 and Series 3 Irons.

Justin Rose, the inaugural global ambassador for McLaren Golf and also an investor in the venture, showcased the clubs at the Thursday event held at Trump National Doral in Miami.

The design of the first iron models utilizes Metal Injection Molding (MIM), a method gaining traction in the golf industry for its precision. MIM allows for more intricate internal designs and tighter tolerances compared to traditional methods like casting and forging.

Each clubhead features a structural mesh at the back that not only provides support but also reduces weight by about 2-3 grams. This mesh pattern nods to McLaren’s automotive design with a resemblance to their supercars like the 750S and GTS.

The Series 1 showcases a classic muscle back profile, designed with a flat sole for enhanced shot manipulation. Modifications to the center of gravity aim to improve performance in both long and short irons. With a progressive offset, this set is particularly beneficial for golfers looking to minimize right-side misses.

These clubs are tailored for skilled ball strikers, offering increased ball speed and better stability compared to traditional forged muscle backs. Long irons are specifically designed to keep shots from veering to the right, while short irons focus on a neutral trajectory.

The Series 3 is classified as a “Performance Cavity Back” within the player distance category. It includes internal toe weights and an additional weight in the central carbon fiber bonnet to help centralize the center of gravity, providing options for both A and B head weights.

These clubs accommodate various skill levels, catering to mid-handicap players seeking extra ball speed and advanced players needing reliable long iron alternatives. The sole of the Series 3 is engineered to enhance forgiveness and improve how the ball interacts with grass, featuring greater camber and a reliefted heel area.

McLaren Golf’s Series 1 and Series 3 irons are currently on offer in North America, Europe, and South Korea, with a price tag of $375 per club.
