Carville Warns Democrats Against Far-Left Rhetoric
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville, along with his co-hosts, recently discussed the potential pitfalls for Democrats as they approach the 2024 election. Carville urged fellow liberals to steer clear of divisive identity politics and extreme social agendas, emphasizing that these approaches could alienate voters and prove to be ineffective.
During their conversation, they also highlighted insights from Texas Congressional candidate Bobby Pulido. Pulido noted that many Latino voters are shifting towards the Republican side, explaining, “People here don’t think they’re poor. They think they’re bankrupt. When they’re bankrupt, they say, ‘Tomorrow’s going to be okay.'” He criticized Democrats for viewing these individuals merely as poor, rather than understanding the broader issues of financial insecurity.
Carville observed that Georgia could yield great results, as long as “stupid progressives” don’t hinder progress. He appreciated Pulido’s insight and praised his response regarding ICE reform, suggesting that renouncing agencies like ICE is akin to the “defund the police” mindset—an idea that could grant Republicans an advantage. “He answered really well,” Carville noted.
As the discussion moved forward, both men commended former Democratic politician Barney Frank, who is now in hospice care. Frank has been vocal about the far-left adopting agendas that go beyond what is politically feasible.
Carville expressed admiration for Frank, highlighting his role in the future of the Democratic Party, despite Frank being 87 years old. “I want to honor one of my all-time favorite figures in American politics,” Carville remarked. He advised Democrats to keep their goals in sight, focus on helping others, and avoid going overboard.
He contrasted pragmatic Democrats with “the idiots who flourish in the Working Families Party,” pointing to what he perceives as a disconnect between coastal progressives and those who live beyond major urban centers. “There’s not a single person who lives more than 25 miles from salt water that empathizes with them,” he stated, leaning into a stereotype.
Overall, Carville’s message resonates with the notion that while it’s essential to strive for progressive ideals, maintaining a grounded and pragmatic approach is key to electoral success.
Carville cautions that extreme left comments are damaging Democrats before 2026.
