Michigan Football Program Faces Major Turnover After Moore’s Misconduct

The recent discovery of misconduct by Sherrone Moore has led to a significant upheaval within the Michigan football program, costing the university over $11.5 million.

In an effort to investigate the former coach and the overall culture in the program, Michigan hired the Chicago-based law firm Jenner & Block on November 13, 2025, and the investigation wrapped up in April.

The reported expenses for the investigation included two invoices in March that amounted to more than $2 million. One invoice totaled $1,887,708.37, while the second one was for $173,339.50.

According to Paul Corliss, the assistant vice president for public affairs and internal communications at the University of Michigan, the substantial investment in athletics highlights the university’s commitment to strengthening its sports programs. He emphasized the complexity of conducting such a legal review, stating that it requires significant time and expertise. The review involved examining Moore’s conduct alongside a broader analysis of the culture within the athletic department.

Moore’s exit from the program on December 10 followed revelations of an inappropriate relationship with assistant Paige Shiver, which was disclosed during the investigation. The university terminated Moore’s contract after finding credible evidence of his misconduct.

In December, it was reported that Jenner & Block had been granted permission to expand their investigation into issues around Moore’s firing and the athletic department’s culture, which allowed for such conduct to occur.

Shiver recently spoke on Good Morning America, describing Moore as “completely controlling” and mentioned a personal struggle she faced during their long-term affair, including an abortion due to a chronic illness.

The university released a statement confirming Moore’s termination, citing violations of university policy regarding relationships with staff. Moore, who has three children, faced legal issues in December, including charges of third-degree burglary and stalking stemming from the fallout with Shiver.

He allegedly threatened self-harm during a confrontation with her, expressing despair over his situation. Ultimately, Moore pled guilty to lesser charges and received an 18-month suspended sentence, along with a restraining order to prevent any contact with Shiver.
