Russell Wilson considering retirement while engaged in serious talks for a television role.

The Jets are not the only team interested in Russell Wilson, who may soon join CBS. Reports from The Athletic indicate that he is in serious discussions with various TV networks, and there’s speculation about his retirement.

CBS appears to be leading the pack to have Wilson as part of Sunday’s “The NFL Today” pregame show.

Recently, Wilson had conversations with the Jets regarding a potential backup role for Geno Smith, his former teammate from the Seahawks.

So far, the free agency landscape for Wilson has been relatively quiet, as most teams other than the Steelers are focused on Aaron Rodgers with training camp approaching.

After a brief tenure as the Giants’ starting quarterback last season, it seems Wilson is on the verge of retiring from football.

He started the first three games for the Giants but was later benched for rookie Jackson Dart, eventually falling behind Jameis Winston.

Notably, Wilson led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl win in 2014 against the Broncos, an event that took place at MetLife Stadium.

He spent a decade in Seattle before moving to the Broncos, where his two seasons were marked by struggles and a difficult relationship with head coach Sean Payton. After a brief but noteworthy time with the Steelers, he signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the Giants.

Wilson, married to Grammy-winning singer Ciara, has made appearances on CBS previously, including last postseason.

If he joins CBS, he’ll be taking over from Matt Ryan, who has exited the network after serving as the Falcons’ team president.

Wilson’s addition to CBS will join a lineup that includes Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, and host James Brown, amidst broader changes at the Football Network this season.

Meanwhile, NBC has also revamped its pregame show, “Football Night in America,” with former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin stepping in and notable departures including Tony Dungy, Matt Berry, and Chris Sims.
