Rescue Operation After Bus Accident in the Seine
Well, that certainly was an unexpected event along the Seine.
A significant rescue effort was initiated on Thursday when a trainee bus driver lost control, sending the bus into the Seine near Paris. The bus collided with a parked car and veered off the road, as reported by various news sources.
Over 90 firefighters, divers, and paramedics quickly arrived at the scene, bringing boats and helicopters with them. Thankfully, all four individuals onboard were successfully rescued, according to official statements.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, although it was confirmed that drug and alcohol tests came back negative.
The driver, who was nearing the end of his training period, experienced this mishap in Juvisy-sur-Orge, which is about 19 miles south of Paris. Authorities mentioned that the bus failed to make a turn close to the riverbank, instead driving straight and dragging a parked vehicle into the water before plunging into the river.
Dramatic footage from the area shows the bus partially submerged, surrounded by rescue workers, with some climbing on the vehicle and others assisting in the water below.
Eyewitnesses recounted the scene as chaotic, with one person noting the massive response from firefighters, remarking, “it felt like all the firefighters from the department had arrived.” Early responders tossed life rings into the river before further assistance took over.
As authorities continue to investigate the precise cause of the crash, additional video footage later showed recovery crews using a crane to extract the submerged bus while helicopters circled above.
