Mets’ Struggles Highlighted by Host Adam Shine
Adam Shine has made it clear that he doesn’t want to hear from David Stearns, the Mets’ president of baseball operations, as the team struggles. On a recent episode of “Shine Time,” the host directed sharp criticisms at Stearns and the Mets, attributing the team’s failures to the executives responsible for crafting a flawed roster.
“If I were David Stearns, I honestly wouldn’t have much to say,” Shine remarked. “The team you’ve built is just bad—it’s reminiscent of the ’62 Mets, like an expansion team.”
He also expressed frustration about the team’s financial decisions, saying, “You spent that money in such a careless way on this poor, cringe-worthy roster.” Shine’s criticism continued as he examined the pitching staff’s disappointing performance despite their high salaries.
Shine pointed out, “You put down $350 million for just two pitchers. It’s absurd. David Stearns should really be ashamed. You signed Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, and then you let go of my friend Pete Alonso.”
These comments arose after Stearns mentioned that he believes manager Carlos Mendoza’s position is secure for now, regardless of the team’s dismal performance.
“Our record isn’t where we want it to be, but we don’t see it as a managerial problem, and we have no plans for a change,” Stearns stated recently.
Currently, the Mets hold the worst record in Major League Baseball, with only 10 wins and 21 losses, including a stretch where they lost 15 out of 18 games.
For some perspective, the 1962 Mets lost a staggering 120 games but started their season with a record of 12-19.
The troubling start has sparked speculation about Mendoza’s future, particularly in light of other teams making managerial changes, such as the Red Sox and Phillies earlier this month.
“It’s tough for everyone,” Mendoza commented after a recent loss. “We are all in this together. It won’t be easy, but we have to press on.”
