Love Amidst Rivalry: Cooper DeJean and Abby Summers
You’ve got to admire Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean and Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Abby Summers. They seem to be finding a way to prioritize their relationship over the fierce rivalry that often exists between their teams.
That’s no small feat, especially in a competitive division like the NFC East, which might not sit well with some dedicated fans of both franchises.
Some fans aren’t pleased to see these two together; after all, DeJean is a talented player who won a Super Bowl in his rookie season, while Summers is part of a beloved cheerleading squad. It can be tough to reconcile that kind of division with a budding romance.
However, maybe this is exactly the sort of relationship that the NFL could benefit from—a fresh example of unity amidst a typical hostile environment. Both DeJean and Summers are young stars striving to make their names known in the league.
The two made an appearance on the red carpet at the Kentucky Derby recently. This followed their earlier sighting together during Iowa’s Elite Eight loss back in March.
Could events like “March Madness” and the “Kentucky Derby” be setting the stage for an NFL love story? There’s buzz surrounding whether Summers can officially claim the title of NFL WAG (wives and girlfriends) linked to DeJean.
A fellow cheerleader, Kleine Powell, hinted at the possibility, remarking on a TikTok video posted by Summers. Powell dubbed the day “Derby Day, aka Hard Launch Day,” adding a few emojis to emphasize its significance.
This leads to some chatter among Summers’ teammates about the “hard launch.” Some view it as a bit reckless, especially considering the longstanding rivalry between their teams.
For Cowboys fans, who are still grappling with the Eagles topping the division last season, it’s hard to swallow that a cheerleader would date someone from an opposing team.
Yet, perhaps it’s better to deal with the romance now rather than risk complications by addressing it publicly during the season when critical games are on the line.
In the grand scheme of things, it hasn’t been a bad offseason for DeJean. Can he and Summers manage to navigate their relationship amidst the rivalries? I can’t say for sure, but as a fan of these kinds of team romances, I’m definitely pulling for them.
