Alex Riggertwood, Santana’s Lead Singer, Dies at 79
Alex Riggertwood, known as the lead singer of Santana, passed away on Friday in Los Angeles at the age of 79, according to confirmation from Fox News Digital.
The details surrounding his death have not been shared yet.
Riggertwood held the role of the band’s vocalist on five occasions from 1979 to 1994.
His wife, Sean Brogan, expressed her grief through a heartfelt statement. “With great sadness, I announce the passing of my dear Alex Riggertwood, my husband of 25 years and someone I’ve known for 36,” she said. “Alex passed away peacefully in his sleep, with his dog Bobo by his side.”
She also noted on social media how Alex was cherished by many. “If you knew him, you loved him. He touched so many people with his extraordinary voice,” she added. “Making music was his passion, and he shared his talent generously.”
Sean reflected on the last moments of Alex’s life, saying, “He played his last show just two weeks ago, and I’m grateful for that. He did it his way, right until the end. Rest in peace, my dear Alex.”
The Scottish musician initially joined Santana in 1979. During his time, he lent his voice to popular tracks like “You Know That I Love You,” “Winning,” and “All I Ever Wanted.” He’s also recognized as a composer on songs such as “The Nile” and “Make Somebody Happy.”
In addition to his work with Santana, Riggertwood had performances with other notable groups, including the Jeff Beck Group and Oblivion Express, and collaborated with the Average White Band.
