DC Crime and Unjust Punishment

There’s some troubling news coming out of Washington, D.C. Police officials are reportedly in the process of trying to dismiss several officers over claims that they manipulated crime data to minimize the perception of violent crime in the capital.

According to a report, Deputy Chief Lashay Makar and Second District Commander Tatiana Savoy have been placed on administrative leave amidst an investigation involving the city, the Department of Justice, and Congressional Republicans.

Additionally, former Third Precinct Commander Michael Pulliam, who was also put on leave concerning similar issues with crime statistics, is also facing potential termination. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has been accused of reclassifying crimes or altering crime reports, supposedly to showcase a decrease in violent crime rates. This alleged issue was even cited when opposing President Donald Trump’s proposal to deploy the National Guard to enhance safety in the city.

Previously, there were reports, exclusively noted by the Daily Caller, indicating that the way the MPD handled this data came from a directive issued from high-ranking officials. Sources mentioned that officers on the scene had to call a supervisor to decide whether a crime should be classified as violent, creating an environment where officers felt pressured. There are also disturbing claims that officers faced repercussions from their superiors if crime rates were perceived as too high in their respective areas.

However, some sources suggest that the actions taken this week to address these alleged manipulations might not be entirely genuine, framing it more as a defensive move than a proactive solution.
