Ambassador Monica Crowley on Her New Role
Monica Crowley, the head of the State Department’s protocol, shared her thoughts at a policy event hosted by Breitbart News on Wednesday, describing the position she was nominated for by President Donald Trump as “the best job in all of Washington, D.C.”
During a conversation with Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle, Crowley mentioned how Trump surprised her with even more thrilling responsibilities once he took office. She will be working within the State Department.
Reflecting on her nomination, Crowley recalled, “The president did call me and nominate me for this job. He said, ‘Monica, I want you to be the chief protocol officer for the United States.’ And I said, ‘Thank you very much, sir.’ Of course, this is the best time of my life! And he said, ‘Oh, wait, there’s more.’
Beyond her role in diplomatic engagements with visiting foreign leaders, she has been asked to represent the administration at significant U.S.-sponsored events throughout Trump’s second term. These include the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, the FIFA World Cup, and the 2028 Summer Olympics.
In June 2025, Crowley announced her role as a major media representative for America 250, a committee established by Congress to celebrate national milestones.
The World Cup, which will feature co-hosting by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to occur from June 11th to July 19th, with matches played across 11 major American cities. Meanwhile, the Olympics will return to Los Angeles for the first time since 2002.
When discussing her responsibilities, Crowley told Boyle, “It’s really wonderful, wonderful.” She added, “Every day is a great adventure,” expressing pride in being “an ambassador for America.”
Crowley, who is also a best-selling author, has established herself as a notable figure in politics, having worked as an assistant to the late President Richard Nixon and written two books about that experience.
Reflecting on her relatively short time in the role, she stated, “I’ve only been in this position for about a year, and I can honestly say that I have the best job in Washington, D.C.” She expressed deep gratitude for Trump’s trust in her abilities and support for his administration and policies.
In conclusion, Crowley described serving the American people as “truly a blessing.”
