Game 2 Tensions Rise Between Knicks and 76ers
After the Knicks narrowly defeated the 76ers 108-102 in Game 2, Jeremy Sochan might have been trying to playfully suggest where to find the best “Big Apple cheesesteak.” However, his comments aimed at Philadelphia players, including V.J. Edgecomb, didn’t sit well with the Sixers, sparking a heated exchange that had Sochan held back by his teammates.
As the tension escalated, Edgecomb also seemed to yell back at Sochan, although it didn’t develop further into anything beyond that.
During the fourth quarter, Sochan appeared to engage in some trash talk with Edgecomb while speaking to the officials, a fact noted by Chris Prussiainen of ClutchPoints.
This moment underscored the competitive nature of the second game in this rivalry, potentially building anticipation for Game 3 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Post-game, Edgecomb mentioned to reporters that the takeaway from the first two games was clear: “it’s going to be a dogfight.” He acknowledged the strength of the Knicks and the intensity that each game is likely to hold.
It seems Edgecomb wasn’t the only one to have an intense interaction that night. He also had a notable exchange with famous Knicks fan Spike Lee after an incident where the 76ers rookie had struck Knicks captain Jalen Brunson during an inbounds play. Lee’s animated responses didn’t seem to affect Edgecomb much at all.
The Knicks are set to head to Philadelphia for the next two games, with a possible return to New York for Game 5 if needed.
