Michigan Senate Candidate Accuses Democrats of “Soft Racism”
During a recent appearance on the show, Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers (R) claimed that the Democratic Party’s policies reflect what he termed “soft forms of racism.”
Rogers expressed his support for the SAVE Act, sharing a concerning example: “We had a Chinese national from Ann Arbor in 2024 who registered and voted. He’s not an American citizen; he’s a Chinese citizen. Just for context, Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan,” he explained.
He continued, mentioning a clerk in Macomb County who discovered numerous illegal immigrants on voter lists. “These individuals weren’t eligible to vote, yet they appeared on these jury lists, which were similarly used to determine voting eligibility,” he noted, emphasizing the need for maintaining election integrity and the significance of even small margins in close races.
“When you’re talking about a tight race, nearly 3/30 of 1 percent out of 5.6 million votes—even a few hundred can make a difference. For the public to trust the electoral process, basic measures like showing an ID should be standard practice,” Rogers stated. He argued that Democrats suggesting these requirements are excessive engage in a kind of “soft racism,” treating minorities as unable to meet such expectations.
Rogers expressed his disapproval further, saying, “I think it’s really racially insensitive to imply that minorities can’t obtain driver’s licenses. It’s downright absurd. When African Americans push back on this notion, it’s as if they shift the narrative and claim that women can’t get them either.” He described this line of reasoning as outrageous, adding that such claims offend a large portion of the population.
“Let’s help restore faith in our elections. It’s quite simple. Just present your driver’s license when you go to vote. I believe that’s a small price to pay to have your voice heard in government every couple of years,” he stated.
