Tage Thompson explains the significance of the Buffalo Sabres' season slogan.

It has been an exciting year for the Buffalo Sabers. They reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2011, even defeating the Boston Bruins in the first round, marking their first playoff series win since 2007.

Throughout the season, the team embraced a mantra: “Everyone Ropes, Everyone Ride.” So, what does that really mean?

Recently, TNT hockey reporter Jackie Redmond showcased a photo of towels that fans will receive during Game 2 against the Montreal Canadiens, featuring slogans. Interestingly, a fan initially thought this motto might have been something cooked up by the team’s management—something we’ve seen before with other teams during playoff runs.

But Redmond clarified that this isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s been a true rallying cry for the Sabers all season. She shared an explanation from Sabers star Tage Thompson. He mentioned, “No job is too big or too small for anyone.” He believes that when all team members are willing to take on roles that may not be glamorous, it really shows a commitment to winning and a willingness to do whatever is necessary.

This philosophy seems to be paying off.

I appreciate this mindset, especially in the postseason. To me, it highlights what I consider essential for winning a Stanley Cup: depth. In today’s NHL, it’s vital for everyone—from star players to those on the fourth line and even goaltenders—to contribute.

This season, the Sabers have surprised many, not just by making the playoffs, but also by clinching a spot in the competitive Atlantic Division, which features five playoff teams. It’s unclear how far they can go, but it’ll be interesting to see.
