Two incredibly bold thieves, linked to multiple thefts from hardware stores in Northern California, were finally caught when police uncovered their unusual method of hiding stolen goods in their pants.
In April, surveillance footage showed the pair stuffing items down the front and back of their pants, as reported by the outlet. When dispatch received a call, it was mentioned that two individuals had likely stolen from the store before.
On a previous occasion, one of the men signaled he had a weapon in his waistband when approached by store employees, according to the report.
Police arrived as the suspects were attempting to leave the store. During the arrest, an officer noticed one of the suspects had used tape around his legs to keep the stolen items from falling out, as shown in police video.
“Okay, I’ll use some tape to keep it from falling,” the officer remarked. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident.
Upon searching them, officers discovered concealed merchandise worth around $750, as well as drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine. They also found a magnet often used to disable anti-theft devices and several stolen credit cards.
An investigation indicated that one of the suspects had a history of similar arrests in other cities, and the stolen goods were believed to be intended for resale.
The identities of the suspects have not been disclosed, but they were booked into the Solano County Jail.
Currently, they face various charges, including possession of stolen property, conspiracy, and drug-related offenses.
The newspaper has reached out to the police department for additional information.
