Terrell Owens Reflects on His Time with the Cowboys

Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens enjoyed three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys during his illustrious 16-year career. It’s been quite some time since he last played in the league, but he still recalls his days with the team often referred to as “America’s Team.” Owens joined the Cowboys in 2006 but had a rocky exit following the 2008 season.

This week, Owens took a moment to look back on his time in Dallas. Interestingly, he emphasized that he doesn’t dwell on those memories for long. “I don’t care about the Cowboys,” he shared during a conversation with Action Network.

He even implied that any lingering feelings might not be one-sided: “The Cowboys haven’t shown any interest in me since I left. It’s really about Jerry Jones or anyone else in that organization… Honestly, I don’t care how things ended with them. I have nothing to say.”

Alongside Owens, former Cowboys player Jordan Lewis also recently expressed his discontent with the team.

Owens signed a three-year contract with the Cowboys in 2006, which was extended for another three years in 2008. However, when he was released in March 2009, reports indicated he may have caused some discord within the locker room. This came shortly after the Cowboys finished a season at 9-7, missing the playoffs. While the team faced offensive struggles, Owens still managed to rack up 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns. Though these numbers were decent, they were also his lowest during his time with Dallas.

Moreover, his relationship with then-offensive coordinator Jason Garrett often became a focal point of scrutiny.

Following his departure from the Cowboys, Owens went on to play for the Buffalo Bills. Surprisingly, even though it was just one season, he celebrated three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons while there. He spoke highly of Buffalo, acknowledging that it’s a unique NFL market that welcomed him even years after his stint.

In his final NFL season, Owens played 14 games with the Cincinnati Bengals. His impressive career includes five All-Pro selections and six Pro Bowl appearances. Notably, he chose to skip the 2018 Hall of Fame induction ceremony, opting instead to hold his own event at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he graduated.
