A 21-year-old mother from Virginia, Amaya Dixon, was taken into custody on Thursday, accused of drowning her 17-month-old twin boys in a bathtub back in April.
Dixon faces severe charges: two counts of felony murder and two counts of child abandonment. The Richmond Police Department was alerted about two injured children at an apartment complex on the South Side just before 8:40 p.m. on April 17.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the twin boys, who appeared to have drowned, according to investigators.
The infants were rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, one of the children was pronounced dead that evening, while the other succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
At the time of this incident, Dixon was already dealing with criminal charges in nearby Chesterfield County, as per court documents.
These charges included serious offenses such as grand larceny and credit card fraud, among others. It’s worth noting that it remains unclear what triggered the drowning incident or whether anyone else was present in the home during that time.
The Richmond Police Department has yet to respond to additional questions about the case. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to this heartbreaking incident.
